Job Title: Community Services Program Coordinator

Salary Range: $5,273.87 - $7,277.27 Monthly

Job Summary

 

Oversees the daily operations of community programs including adaptive and general recreation at the Highland Community Center. Provides training for department staff on disabilities and inclusion support as needed. Job duties include program planning, administrative tasks, supervision of part time staff, volunteers and contractors. This position will work days, evenings, and occasional weekend shifts as needed.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develops, plans, promotes, implements and reviews a wide range of adaptive recreation, general recreation programs as assigned.
  • Recruits, trains, evaluates and generally supervises participants, instructors, contractors involved in adaptive recreation programs.
  • Monitors program budget, tracks expenditures, pursues fund raising opportunities, writes and monitors grants.
  • Develops marketing strategies, presentation and promotional materials as it relates to recreation programs.
  • Drafts memos, briefs, contracts and other correspondence as needed.
  • Works directly in adaptive recreation programs for people living with intellectual and physical disabilities.
  • Directly assists with Activities of Daily Living care and provides behavior modification techniques in emergency situations for individuals in adaptive recreation.
  • Purchases and maintains uniforms, sports equipment and supplies for programs.
  • Develops and maintains partnerships with groups and agencies that enhance service to those living with disabilities.
  • Supervises building operations in absence of the Community Services Supervisor.

Supervision Received:

  • Works under the general supervision of the Community Services Supervisor
  • May exercise supervision over temporary/seasonal employees, volunteers and contractors

Qualifications


Education, Experience and Other Requirements:

  • Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a degree in the social sciences, recreation, business or related field(s).
  • A minimum of four years of progressively responsible related experience in human/social services, programming recreation activities or a related area.
  • Four years of progressive experience in the field of intellectual and physical disabilities.
  • Experience training on the subject of disability awareness and inclusion.
  • Or any equivalent combination of education, experience, and training that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.

Knowledge Skills & Abilities:

  • Knowledge of budget management.
  • Experience in public speaking and community outreach.
  • Ability to relate and work with a broad and varied population.
  • Ability to interpret and apply policies and procedures to ambiguous situations; ability to respond to emergency situations.
  • Working knowledge of positive behavior management techniques.
  • Experience in general recreation programming.
