POSITION DESCRIPTION:
Seattle Parks and Recreation is currently recruiting for Temporary Lifeguards for eight indoor swimming pools, two outdoor pools, and nine beaches (Green Lake and Lake Washington).
Compensation: Starts at $16.87 ($16.07 + 5% premium pay) hourly, Part-Time
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Be part of the team where "teaching children how to swim" is the primary goal! With a commitment to excellence and water safety, eight indoor swimming pools offer a wide selection of swim lessons, recreation swimming and fitness opportunities. We are seeking new members for our team of valued service providers, who connect with citizens in each community across the city. The outstanding work of this unit was recognized with the Excellence in Aquatics Award presented by National Recreation and Parks Association.
Successful candidates will receive ongoing training in the "Seattle Swims" lesson curriculum, preventative lifeguarding, and specialized instructor skills for water exercise and other program options. This team needs positive, hard working professionals who can contribute to continue to make Seattle Parks and Recreation an industry leader in aquatic programming. Our pools are a vital part of the culture in a city surrounded by water where swimming is an essential life skill.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required:
• American Red Cross Lifeguard/First Aid/CPR/AED certifications
• Northwest Lifeguard Test certification (available after hiring as a condition of employment)
• Must be at least 16 years of age
• Background check & physical required upon hire
Some positions may require additional skills to offer a variety of programs:
• Swim instruction for all ages
• Water fitness
• Beach lifeguarding
• Diving instruction
• Swim coach (summer positions only)
• Cash handling (usually in early morning programs)
• Red Cross instructor for certification programs
