We are seeking two AmeriCorps members!
The Workforce Development Council of Seattle-King County (WDC) is seeking two AmeriCorps members for the Seattle-King County Partnership to Reconnect. The AmeriCorps Members will provide opportunity youth in South King County with information and resources and help connect them to whatever re-engagement program is best for them.
These AmeriCorps members will be part of a regional outreach team whose primary responsibilities will be to conduct community-based outreach in South King County, and expose youth to re-engagement options. For youth that are ready to get back on track with their education and career, the AmeriCorps members will refer them to an appropriate program and ensure youth are linked to services.
Member Duties: Conduct outreach to youth in the community and to community-based organizations in South King County. Engage directly with youth to help them determine which program may be right for them, and educate adult allies and stakeholders about what options are available for youth they work with. Member will help youth with career awareness and understanding secondary, post-secondary and workforce training options and how to access them. Member will make referrals and ensure youth get connected to the program of their choice, following up with youth and staff and tracking results. Member will identify ways in which WDC career awareness tools and strategies can be improved for youth, and will coordinate with Youth Business Services Team and support career fairs/hiring events as appropriate. Member will also track the number of youth contacts, referrals, and outcomes of referrals.
Members will serve Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The AmeriCorps members will serve an average of 40 hours per week for 6.5 months. According to federal AmeriCorps regulations, applicants must be a US citizen, national, or lawful permanent resident; at least 18 years old; pass criminal background checks and not be listed on the National Sex Offender Public Registry.
Required Qualifications: Associates Degree (AA) - Age 18-or older - Must commit to 6.5-month term of service with AmeriCorps
Term of Service 1/16/2016- 7/31/2016
STIPEND: $1,195 /Month living allowance with health coverage. An education award, (upon satisfactory completion of 900 hrs.) of $2,865 is provided. It can be used to pay for college or graduate school, or to pay back qualified student loans. AmeriCorps members may also qualify for child care assistance. Members also qualify for loan forbearance for those with existing student loans.
