Senior Accountant Job Description/Duties
Independent CPA firm dedicated to the tenets of sound accounting and the time-honored traditions of ethical, principled money management has an immediate opening. Located in lower Queen Anne in Seattle, the firm has a long-standing history of performance excellence and offers accounting and tax services to businesses and individuals. Position
Senior Account
This position is regular part-time (20 – 30 hours per week)
Overview:
The senior accountant will plan, perform, review work in all of the firm’s areas of service, including tax, audit, and financial, reporting to and working with the owner. Due to the firm’s small size and wide area of expertise, the senior accountant will occasionally perform other projects or engagements that come into the office, including quality reviews and composing articles for the firm’s website.
Tax Duties:
· Prepares federal, state, and local income tax returns and other document including extensions, and quarterly estimated payment vouchers.
· Prepares tax estimate schedules by using Creative Solutions Ultra Tax projector software.
· Recommends tax strategies by researching federal, state, and local taxation issues.
· Responds to CP2000 notices and other correspondence from taxing authorities on behalf of clients.
· Revises procedures by developing and streamlining procedures and worksheets for calculation of tax provisions.
· Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations. (Firm will share cost or subsidize CPE)
· Experience with Creative Solutions Ultra Tax software, including Fixed Asset CS and File Cabinet CS is a definite plus.
Accounting and Audit Duties:
· Coordinate the various planning phases (primarily audit) engagements along with the owner
· Perform and document audit procedures, ensuring compliance with Quality Control, Peer Review, and other applicable regulatory requirements.
· Review audit procedures performed by other members of the audit team, primarily using PPC audit programs and other PPC documents.
· Prepare audit correspondence, including engagement and management representation letters.
· Review reports, financial statements and tax returns including auditing standards and disclosure requirements.
· Review with the owner any critical area or significant findings that raise questions involving accounting principles, auditing standards, tax regulations and Firm policies
· Be responsible for completing client work on timely basis
Requirements
· Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in accounting or other related program.
· CPA or CPA candidate a plus
· Prior experience in public accounting and tax
· Competency reviewing tax returns
· Financial statement preparation or audit experience
· Strong accounting and analytical skills
· CPA license preferred
· Research proficiency
- Strong computer skills including experience working with accounting systems other than QuickBooks.
- Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills
- Detail-oriented with ability to multi-task, within reason.
- Ability to work with clients including those with limited accounting and bookkeeping skills.
