Philanthropy Northwest is the regional network of foundations, corporations, collectives and individuals dedicated to cross-sector collaboration to build resilient, equitable and inclusive communities in Alaska, Idaho, Montana, Oregon, Washington and Wyoming. We promote, facilitate and drive collaborative action by philanthropic organizations to strengthen our communities. We envision vibrant, healthy Northwest communities – each with its own unique history, culture and traditions – connected to the natural environment and facing the future with optimism. Founded in 1976, we build, connect and inspire the philanthropic community through professional development, networking, research, publications, public policy work and consulting.
We have three core programs: 1) The Learning Network, a regional learning community which provides an environment and opportunities for community investors to connect, learn, build capacity and grow; 2) The Giving Practice, our consulting team, which brings customized solutions, deep regional relationships and national expertise to support philanthropic entities navigate the changing landscape of today’s philanthropy; 3) an incubation platform for innovative philanthropic projects. We are currently the home for two major projects: Mission Investors Exchange and Community Democracy Workshop.

THE JOB
We seek an energetic professional who will be a thought partner with the leadership team to create and implement practices that foster an employee-centric, high performance, high engagement, learning organization that strives for continual improvement in an environment that reflects our values. This person will also serve as the board liaison, ensuring that the both the experiences of and collective relationships with the board and its individual members are proactively, consistently and professionally stewarded. The talent partner and board liaison reports to the chief executive officer.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Talent Partner
- Work with leadership team to nurture an adaptive enterprise culture centered on the principles of diversity, equity, inclusion, continuous improvement and learning
- Develop and implement ongoing performance management and improvement systems with intended goals of identifying, developing and retaining our talent
- Be responsible for all aspects of our people practice / human resources, including:
- ensuring all practices and processes reflect our values of diversity, equity and inclusion
- serving as point person for all HR risk management; staying up to date on relevant employment law changes
- recruitment, hiring and onboarding plans for new team members, and managing exits
- compensation and benefits administration; maintain a competitive package
- develop and maintain personnel policies, including employee handbook, managing all necessary documentation
- orchestrate the organizing / execution of staff retreats
- ensuring all practices and processes reflect our values of diversity, equity and inclusion
- Represent Philanthropy Northwest at events, engaging with our members and partners, fostering deep working relationships with the board of directors, leadership team, staff, consultants and the communities we serve
Board Liaison
- Partner with chief executive officer and vice president to strategize and plan annual board agenda and activities.
- Serve as staff liaison for Philanthropy Northwest board members, responsibilities for which include
- Ongoing review of governance documents including bylaws, articles of incorporation, board policies and member status and queueing up revision process as necessary
- Organizing quarterly board meetings and annual board retreat, including agenda creation, establishing dates and locations, managing all meeting logistics, serving as on-site manager, and taking meeting minutes
- Leading the development of board books for quarterly board meetings, including managing staff delivery of reports, organizing peer-review of reports, collating all materials and distributing reports to board members
- Ongoing review of governance documents including bylaws, articles of incorporation, board policies and member status and queueing up revision process as necessary
QUALIFICATIONS
- Passionate about people; demonstrated relationship management experience, strong networking and interpersonal skills
- Openness to new ideas; a creative and innovative mind energetically searching for new solutions
- Strong work ethic, self-directed and high degree of diplomacy with proven attention to detail
- Experience and demonstrated ability to work effectively and collaboratively with a wide range of stakeholders
- Inquisitive, flexible with entrepreneurial spirit and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment
- A passion for learning and continuous improvement
- Demonstrates solid judgment and problem-solving skills with proven attention to detail, accuracy and quality
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills required
- Five years relevant experience in a professional setting
- Bachelor’s degree preferred
SALARY AND BENEFITS
The annual compensation for this full-time (40 hours/week) position includes a package of benefits including medical, vision, dental, Flex-Plan and retirement. Salary range is dependent upon experience.
