BASIC FUNCTION:
This is a limited-term position with an expected end date of December 31, 2014, or upon assignment completion, whichever occurs first. Applicants must submit their application materials by July 10, 2014, in order to be considered for the first review period.
Under the direction of the Development Engineering Supervisor, perform technical work in site inspection, material testing and project coordinating for public works construction.
SALARY: Depending on Qualifications, the salary for this position is: $5,177 to $5,714 per month.
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES:
*Inspect construction work in progress; review construction materials to assure
compliance with specifications, plans and standards; inspect existing systems to assure
compliance with the requirements of the City and other agencies.
*Inspect a variety of construction and installation projects including water and electrical
systems, streets, concrete structures and large development projects for conformance
with specifications, City ordinances and regulations.
*Coordinate with contractors to facilitate construction and installation projects;
communicate with various City departments and personnel to coordinate and facilitate
projects.
*Inspect sewers, streets, street lighting and traffic signal systems, telephone cables,
bridges, walls and capital improvement projects as assigned.
*Inspect grades and provide for test of construction materials such as sand, gravel,
concrete pour and aggregates; inspect and test water mains and fire hydrants.
*Inspect trenching, placing and backfilling for the transformer wells, junction boxes,
street light foundations, poles and installation of underground cables.
*Assure project work conducted within the public right-of-way complies with local, State
and national standards for traffic control.
*Prepare field notes, diaries; periodic and final pay estimates and as-built
drawings. Operate business and office machines including computers, copiers and
calculator.
*Resolve design changes, errors or deficiencies with contractor, plan reviewer,
manufacturer or supplier.
*Take samples of material to be tested for compliance to contract specifications.
*Provide information to the general public on construction methods, materials,
specifications and permits; respond to complaints.
*Prepare and maintain various records and reports concerning assigned projects, job
status and progress and work activities.
*Operate a variety of equipment such as land survey equipment, mechanical testing
equipment, metal detectors, pressure gauges and two-way radio.
*Assist in survey work for as-builts and other work as required.
Perform related duties as assigned.

Operate a computer terminal to enter data, maintain records and generate reports.

Read and interpret plans, specifications and blueprints.
Resolve conflicts in a positive manner.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Any combination equivalent to: two years of college level courses in engineering and two years experience in public work construction or inspection.
LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Valid Washington State driver's license.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Work is performed in the field and may include walking, standing, bending, climbing and other
physical activities. Considerable travel is required.
