Job description

As an Engineering Designer at TGP you must demonstrate applied knowledge of Engineering Design Processes across multiple engineering disciplines including mechanical, electrical, civil, and architectural/structural/building engineers.  You will be responsible for executing project specific and product specific design development from concept through prototype construction, product testing and ultimately, manufacturing integration.  Through extensive use of AutoCAD, and Inventor software you will create 2D/3D models of new architectural products, create assembly and part drawings, bills of materials and exploded view animations. You will work closely with internal manufacturing personnel and external vendors to oversee the creation of parts. You will be responsible for physically constructing prototypes and assisting in the construction of architectural mock-ups.  In depth knowledge of 2D AutoCAD and extensive use of Excel to create pricing spreadsheets and other calculation tools required.  Extensive prior experience in Architectural and or manufacturing environments will be crucial to your success. This position is on-site and may require out of state travel several times per year.

In a self-directed capacity, plan, develop, coordinate, and direct a number of small projects with many complex features and/or a large and important product development project.

As individual worker, carries out complex or novel assignments requiring the development of new or improved techniques and procedures. Work is expected to result in the development of new or improved processes, products, and/or methods.

As staff specialist, develops and evaluates plans and criteria for a variety of projects and activities to be carried out by others.  Assesses the feasibility and soundness of proposed engineering evaluations.  Often performs as a staff consultant.  Additional responsibilities may include:   CAD program administration, leading project meetings with internal and external personnel, development of timelines and budgets. Development and training of personnel. Technical writing and technical document creation/compilation for assembly and construction manuals. Taking responsibility for the accuracy and clarity of all documentation on a given project.

As a team contributor, aid in the creation, development, and maintenance of Standard Operating Procedures for the Engineering department including but not limited to; engineering best practices, standardizing work flow, project and product specific methodologies, documentation and revision control.

 

Experience, Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills

Associates Degree in engineering related studies or equivalent from 2 year college or technical school plus 5 years related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Good written and oral communication abilities. Ability to respond effectively to sensitive inquiries or complaints.

Ability to plan, execute and finalize projects according to strict deadlines and within budget. This includes acquiring resources and coordinating the efforts of team members and third-party contractors or consultants in order to deliver projects according to plan.

CAM NC-Programming knowledge and experience of common CNC methods and practices.

Knowledge and experience of sheet metal fabrication and welding practices, including standard detailing methodologies for each.

Hand’s on experience with common shop tools and fabrication is a plus.

Technical Writing ability to convey complex procedures in clear concise written format.

Experience with desktop publishing software a plus.

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plan and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. Geometric dimensioning and tolerances. Must be fluent in Statics and Dynamics and beam theory.

Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems; to create and interpret nonverbal symbolism (formulas, equations, graphs, etc.); and, to deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables.

Must have advanced skills in the following software programs: Autodesk Inventor 2012 or newer, Autodesk AutoCAD 2012 or newer, Microsoft Project 2010, and MS Office

Ability to quickly learn new software programs.  Industry specific tools (LogiKal, Softech V6) are used daily.

Ability to read, analyze, interpret and create, complex documents, specifications, blueprints and architectural drawings.
